About PBI Mexico

The Mexico Project field team is made up of volunteers from many countries. Before entering the field, volunteers are required to participate in a week-long training program that includes information about Mexico's political context as well as information about PBI's international accompaniment work in different countries.

In the event that the organizations we accompany or PBI volunteers are threatened, our support network, made up of institutions, members of parliament, church groups, NGOs, governmental and civil employees and diplomats who have expressed their endorsement of the Mexico Project's work, will be alerted about the situation.

The Project works according to the philosophy of nonviolence, within the framework of international norms of human rights, under a strict respect for local laws and is independent of political and religious agendas. The Mexico Project receives funds from many public and private institutions of different countries, which allows it clear financial independence from any organization.

Areas of work

Accompaniment

The Mexico Project team provides international accompaniment to people and organizations who promote human rights whose work is affected by repression and threats to their lives due to their non-violent work. We aim to provide the necessary level of protection so that human rights defenders can continue to defend human rights without fear of violence or reprisals.

Public Relations

The Mexico Project volunteers maintain continuous contact with Mexican civil and military authorities, embassies present in Mexico, and the United Nations. In these meetings we inform authorities about our concern for the people that we work with and we ask them to participate in our support and protection work.

Publications

The San Francisco project office distributes information that the field team produces about the human rights situation in Mexico. This information comes from public sources.

Workshops

At the request of local NGOs, the Mexico Project offers workshops in security training for members of NGOs, human rights leaders, and communities.
